Early Years

Granit Xhaka was born in Basel, Switzerland, to Kosovar Albanian parents. He began playing football at a young age and joined the youth academy of Basel, where he progressed through the ranks.

Club Career

Basel

Xhaka made his professional debut for Basel in 2010. Xhaka spent several successful seasons at FC Basel, where he became a key player in their midfield. He played an instrumental role in the club’s domestic successes, winning several Swiss Super League titles and Swiss Cup trophies. At Basel, Xhaka won the Super League Championship during the 2011-12 season which was followed by a double, the League Championship title, and the  Swiss Cup in the following season. Xhaka’s performances caught the attention of scouts from top European clubs, and in 2012, he made a move to the Bundesliga.

Borrusia Mönchengladbach

Xhaka joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany, where he continued to excel and establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga. He displayed his range of passing, long-range shooting, and defensive capabilities, earning him recognition and praise from fans and pundits alike. Xhaka spent four seasons at Mönchengladbach, consistently delivering impressive performances. He played for Gladbach for four seasons, making over 100 appearances and helping them to finish as runners-up in the 2014-15 DFB-Pokal.
